DO'S AND DON'TS OF RAMADAN

DO'S AND DON'TS OF RAMADAN

Introduction

This holy month encourages brotherhood and compassion, and hence, make sure to offer some percentage of your wealth to those in need. Muslims should donate to cater to the requirements of poor and needy during the holy month Ramadan and also for the whole year. The holy month of Ramadan, which is also the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is of great importance to the Muslim community. During this period, Muslims observe fast from dawn to dusk, in addition to abiding by the preset dos and don’ts of Ramadan.

Do's

1. Recite the Quran: Ramadan is a time to  communicate with the Almighty. Being the month when the holy book was revealed Prophet Muhammad, Ramadan is when one should recite the Holy Quran as many times as possible. People should recite and reflect on the verses of holy Quran in their lives.

2. Give To The Needy

This holy month encourages brotherhood and compassion, and hence, make sure to offer some percentage of your wealth to those in need. Muslims should donate to cater to the requirements of poor and needy during the holy month Ramadan and also for the whole year.

3. Don't Be Secretive

Compassionate and forgiving, as this is what Ramadan aims to teach us. The month of Ramadan promotes brotherhood and unity among the Muslim communities around the world.

4. Be Prayerful

During Ramadan, all Muslims must offer Salat, which implies offering prayers five times a day. Salat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and helps Muslims to seek Allah’s forgiveness and guidance. These prayers are known as Salat al-fajr, Salat al-zuhr, Salat al-‘asr, Salat al-maghrib and Salat al-‘isha. Muslims should perform Dhikr meaning appreciating Allah through their prayers. Muslims should pray for the health and prosperity of their family.

Don'ts

1. Skipping Suhoor

"Take the pre-fasting meal. Verily, there is blessing in the pre-fasting meal." (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1923

It can be tempting to "sleep in" during Ramadan and wait until the last few minutes before sunrise to wake up and pray Fajr. However, there is so much to gain from eating the pre-fasting meal called Suhoor, even if it is just water and a few dates, or maybe a fresh smoothie full of vitamins and good nutrients that will give you energy for the day insha'Allah.

2. Avoid Alcohol

Alcoholic drinks are highly forbidden in Islam; during Ramadan, it is pointless saying that it is not accepted.

3. Don't Fast During Menstruation

During mentraustion and post breast feeding woman should avoid fasting for the little periods.

4. Don't Be Lazy

Ramadan can be exhausting, and we need to make sure we get enough sleep to keep up with our daily life and responsibilities. That being said, we very easily fall into oversleeping and lazy mode during Ramadan, blaming our fast and extra acts of worship like Taraweeh for our lack of energy. We can't be late to work or school everyday during Ramadan because we couldn't wake up on time as a result of being up all night to pray. Our responsibilities need to be fulfilled. Additionally, there is so much blessing and virtue to be from Ramadan, and spending this holy month sleeping or doing nothing beneficial would defeat its very purpose.

5. Avoid Sex.

Run away from fornication, adultary and sex outside your marriage.

Conclusion

Ramadan is an holy month that needs to keep clean by following Quran
